Data Strategist

One North’s Data Strategy team partners with organizations to unlock the value in their data — transforming how they make decisions, engage audiences, and operate. We work at the intersection of strategy, technology, and creativity, helping clients move from data collection to data-driven action.

As a Data Strategist, you’ll serve as a trusted advisor and hands-on practitioner for our clients. You’ll help define what questions data should answer, build the systems to answer them, and guide organizations toward smarter, more confident decision-making. This role sits at the center of our cross-functional agency — collaborating with UX, Design, Technology, and Campaign teams to ensure data informs everything we do.

We operate in shades of gray. Our clients don’t always know what they need — you’ll help them figure it out, then build it. The ideal candidate is equal parts strategist, analyst, and curious technologist who thrives on ambiguity and brings structure to complexity.

The Data Strategist will be based remotely near Chicago for a light hybrid onsite/remote work model at our downtown Chicago office.

What You’ll Do
Strategic Advisory
  • Serve as a strategic data partner for long-term client relationships, helping translate business goals into data-driven roadmaps

  • Research emerging tools, techniques, and AI capabilities — proactively bringing relevant innovations to clients
Analysis & Insight
  • Dive into unfamiliar datasets and systems to surface meaningful patterns, opportunities, and risks
  • Develop and maintain SQL queries across platforms such as Google BigQuery to power reporting and analysis
  • Design and build dashboards and data visualizations in Power BI, Tableau, or Looker that drive genuine decision-making — not just reporting
AI & Modern Data Practices
  • Help clients explore and adopt LLM-powered tools and AI agents that improve their data practices and operational workflows
  • Balance innovation with governance — guiding clients on responsible AI adoption, data quality, and risk management

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with UX Strategists and Designers to translate user needs into data product requirements — from dashboards to operational applications
  • Collaborate with Technologists, Creatives, and Campaign strategists to ensure data informs design, content, and experience decisions
  • Communicate complex analytical concepts clearly and confidently to both technical and non-technical audiences
What You Bring
  • 2 or more years of experience in marketing analytics, strategy, consulting, or a related data-focused discipline
  • Strong strategic instincts — you can move fluidly between defining the problem, designing the approach, and executing the solution
  • Can think on your feet and find ways forward when the room gets stuck
  • Strong presentation skills— you will be in charge of creating presentations and communicating effectively
  • SQL skills; comfort diving into new schemas, platforms, and data ecosystems
  • Experience building and deploying dashboards in BI tools (Tableau, Power BI, or Looker)
  • Familiarity with AI and LLM tools and a genuine curiosity about their application in data workflows
  • Strong skills in digital analytics platforms, preferably Google Analytics 4 or Adobe Analytics
  • A quantitative background — either through education or demonstrated analytical work experience
  • Entrepreneurial mindset: you take initiative, navigate ambiguity, and don’t wait to be told what to do
Nice to Have
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Looker Studio)
  • JavaScript experience for writing or maintaining APIs and custom analytics implementations
  • Exposure to agentic AI frameworks or workflow automation tools
  • Proficiency in Python or R for data manipulation, automation, and analysis
