One North is seeking an energetic and motivated Studio Manager I to lead a studio composed of copywriters and copyeditors supporting a complex enterprise client portfolio.
This role retains a strong focus on production at scale, operational excellence, and client partnership, while adding clear accountability for editorial quality, copy workflows, and written content standards across digital channels.
The Studio Manager will manage and mentor a growing team of writers and editors, ensure high-quality copy deliverables aligned to brand voice and SEO best practices, and partner cross-functionally with Operations, Practice leadership, and clients to evolve content capabilities, workflows, KPIs, and SLAs.
The perfect applicant will bring experience from agency and studio backgrounds, with a copywriting background and a robust track record in pitching, developing solutions/approaches, team formation, workflow oversight, client interactions, and reporting. The ability to effectively communicate both up and downstream is a must, along with a results-oriented and positive attitude. At least 5 years of leadership experience is preferred for this position.

The Studio Manager will ideally be based in the Chicagoland area, but we are open to remote locations across the U.S.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary client contact for the copywriting and editorial studio, overseeing communication, feedback loops, scope alignment, and team adjustments while building trusted relationships that drive program growth and new initiatives.
- Partner with Operations and Practice leadership to evaluate opportunities and formulate strategies that improve delivery standards, productivity, scalability, and innovation for content programs.
- Develop fluency in the client’s brand, voice, tone, and editorial standards, ensuring consistent application across all written deliverables.
- Manage, coach, and mentor a team of copywriters and copyeditors, potentially including offshore team members and third-party vendors.
- Foster a culture of editorial excellence, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement across writing and editing disciplines.
- Support professional development by providing feedback, identifying skill gaps, and encouraging growth in writing quality, editing rigor, SEO knowledge, and content strategy.
- Ensure copy and editorial deliverables are on track, risks are identified early, and quality standards are consistently met across all formats, including web copy, SEO content, landing pages, email, e-books, sales enablement materials, and partner assets.
- Oversee and continuously improve copywriting and editing workflows, including briefing intake, drafting, editing, reviews, and approvals, to meet service-level objectives.
- Establish and reinforce editorial standards, style guidelines, and quality control processes in collaboration with senior writers and editors.
- Develop and apply qualitative and quantitative metrics related to content quality, turnaround time, and team performance to drive efficiency and optimization.
- Develop and present client business reviews, leadership updates, and new business pitches related to content and editorial services.
- Lead monthly Studio All Hands meetings to share team updates, business performance, editorial priorities, and client feedback.
- Ensure adherence to security protocols, confidentiality requirements, and documentation standards.
- Stay current on industry trends in copywriting, content marketing, SEO, and editorial practices to bring forward innovative ideas.
Skills & Qualifications
- 5 or more years of experience as a Studio Manager, Creative Manager, or similar leadership role overseeing copywriting or editorial teams ideally within an agency or in-house studio environment
- Proven experience managing high-volume digital content production, including web, SEO, email, and long-form assets
- Strong understanding of editorial workflows, copy quality standards, brand voice, and content governance
- Demonstrated ability to build high-performing teams and strong client relationships through clear communication and collaboration
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with confidence leading business discussions with clients and senior stakeholders
- Analytical and data-driven, with experience using KPIs, SLAs, and performance metrics to guide decisions
- Familiarity with project management and ticket-based systems; experience working within Agile or Waterfall methodologies
- Proficiency with common content, collaboration, and project management tools; experience supporting digital ecosystems is a plus
- Self-aware, receptive to feedback, and committed to continuous improvement
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in copywriting, editing, content strategy, journalism, marketing, or a related field
- Experience supporting B2B and enterprise technology clients
- Project management certification (PMP) or similar training

We reserve the right to pay above or below the base salary range of $105,000-$150,000 based on factors unrelated to sex, race, or any other protected classification.
