Creating an Experience: Event Design at One North

by Michael Brown February 15, 2024

In the world of creative agencies, the art of event design goes beyond logistics and aesthetics. It’s about crafting an immersive experience that leaves a lasting impression on attendees.

At One North, we recently undertook the exciting challenge of establishing a new identity for our inaugural annual client event: “The Assembly.” This blog unveils the behind-the-scenes process of how we breathed life into this event, from conception to execution.

The Birth of “The Assembly”

Every great event begins with a name that resonates, and The Assembly was no exception. We started by delving into the essence of the event – a gathering of minds, collaboration, and shared vision. The name had to reflect unity and purpose. Through collaborative brainstorming sessions, we meticulously crafted a list of potential names, eventually deciding on The Assembly for its evocative and inclusive connotations.

Building the Identity

With the name set, the next step was to develop a visual identity that would encapsulate the spirit of the event. Our design team approached this task with a focus on brand consistency and a strong understanding of our values.

Logo Design

The cornerstone of any visual identity, the logo for The Assembly was designed to be versatile, representing the collaborative nature of the event. We chose simple shapes, a brand-adjacent color palette, and a modern yet approachable font to convey the spirit and purpose of the event.

Color Palette and Typography

Consistency in design elements is crucial. We selected a carefully curated color palette and typography to complement the logo and evoke a sense of sophistication while maintaining a welcoming atmosphere. Straightforward and strong, these choices formed the visual backbone of The Assembly.

Event Collateral

Creating a seamless experience involves attention to detail in every piece of collateral, from invitations to event credentials. Each touchpoint serves as an opportunity to reinforce the identity and build an impression.

Invitations

In addition to digital invites and communications, we also sent a physical invitation to signal the exclusive, intimate nature of the event. As the first physical point of contact with attendees, we designed the it to be more than just a piece of paper. A square format alludes to the shapes in the logo, while intricate folds, textured paper, and a selection of destination photography from a local artist add a tactile dimension, making the invitation an experience in itself.

Presentations and Signage

Consistency was vital in designing event programs and signage. We carried the same visual elements through to maintain a cohesive look, ensuring attendees felt connected to the event from the moment they arrived.

The Importance of Details

It’s the details transform an event from ordinary to extraordinary. From the choice of music to the placement of signage, every element was carefully considered to contribute to the overall atmosphere. Being mindful of the event location, every attendee’s name badge and welcome letter were printed on paper that contained wildflower seeds and could be planted after the event concluded.

Branded Merchandise

To extend the event experience beyond the venue, branded merchandise was thoughtfully selected and designed. Attendees left not only with memories but also tangible reminders of the event.

Interactive Elements

To encourage engagement, we incorporated interactive elements strategically throughout the experience. From a mobile platform to promote dialogue between attendees to digital displays showcasing each speaker’s content, each piece added a layer to the overall experience.

Creating Lasting Impressions

The Assembly wasn’t just an event; it was a narrative. Through meticulous planning and an unwavering commitment to our vision, we created an experience that went beyond the ordinary. Attendees didn’t just attend; they became part of something larger, something memorable.

Event design at One North isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s about telling a story, evoking emotions, and creating connections. The Assembly was a testament to our dedication to turning concepts into unforgettable experiences.
